Switching Web Agencies: What to Consider About Your Website and Ongoing Support
Dissatisfied with your website or web agency? Learn how to prepare for the switch, retain useful content and rebuild your website.

© Velvionix Your website no longer fits your company, changes take too long, or the ongoing support no longer meets your needs. Perhaps the web presence now looks dated, loads slowly or no longer presents your current services clearly. Then the question is often not only about a new website, but also about a new web agency.
A switch does not mean you have to give everything up. Domain, business email, strong content and existing media can often still be used, while the website itself is rebuilt.

What Really Matters When Switching Agencies
What You Can Keep When You Switch
Your domain can often stay where it is managed today, and your business email can keep running. Strong copy, images, service descriptions and visible pages can be carried over.
Velvionix does not take over ongoing maintenance of third-party WordPress, CMS, plugin or website-builder systems. We develop the new web presence from the ground up and reuse useful content without continuing the dependencies of the previous system.
Rebuilding Your Website: What the New Start Includes and Costs
The Starter foundation begins at a one-off EUR 599 net* for compact business websites. It includes a homepage and up to four compact subpages, individual design, responsive implementation and technical quality checks before launch. Details are on website pricing and options.
Existing content can be taken over, reorganised and made clearer. Load time, accessibility, web standards, SEO foundations and a clear information structure are part of a professional website at Velvionix. It should convince people who already know your web address and also provide a solid foundation for visibility in search engines and modern AI search features. For further work on search themes, local signals and content, see our Organic Visibility service.
If suitable media are missing, we can also develop images, videos, animations and 2D or 3D elements by agreement. These extensions are scoped and agreed in advance. Learn more under Design, Media and Interaction.
Scope and price are fixed before the project starts. Extra services are added only when they make sense for your project and you have approved them.
After launch, Care and Hosting begin at EUR 59 net* per month. That includes hosting and operations, protection measures, monitoring, backups, technical care and small content changes, which we usually implement within 48 hours.
* All prices are net. Our services are intended for businesses, self-employed professionals and freelancers acting for business or professional purposes. VAT is charged where legally applicable.
What You Should Request from Your Current Agency
What matters most for the switch is that your company controls the related accounts, files and information. We only use what the new project actually needs.
Step 1: The domain
The domain is your internet address, for example velvionix.com.
Ask your current agency:
Question for your agency
With which provider is our domain managed, which customer account is it managed through, and does our company have its own administrative access?
The domain usually does not need to be transferred for the new website. At launch, only the mapping to the new website is updated.
If the domain is managed through the previous agency’s customer account, have administration moved into your company’s own account.
Step 2: Administration of your business email
Many companies use business email addresses under their own domain, for example info@velvionix.com. This means company addresses, not an unrelated private address.
Being able to read and send email does not mean your company also holds administrative access. That access is used, for example, to create new mailboxes or additional addresses.
So ask:
Question for your agency
With which provider is our business email managed, and does our company have its own administrative access?
Email does not need to move; we do not need personal mailbox passwords.
Step 3: Your files and usage rights
Ask for the original files you want to keep using: logo, photos, graphics, videos, PDFs or other media. For purchased assets, usage rights for the new website should be clear.
If visual assets are missing, we can create new ones.
Step 4: Access to the old website - retain it for your own control, not for our work
If you are entitled to administrator access to the existing WordPress or CMS website, make sure you retain it under your own control.
For the new Velvionix website, that access is usually not required. We do not maintain the old CMS and do not make changes there. The previous agency can continue supporting the old website until launch while we work in parallel with visible content and the original files you provide.
Step 5: Google Search Console and analytics, if they exist
Ask your current agency:
Question for your agency
Are Google Search Console or analytics services set up for our website? If so, we want owner or administrator rights in an account belonging to our company.
Search Console shows which queries and pages bring visibility and helps us take existing findability into account. If analytics services are missing, there is no need to set them up retroactively.
After handover, agency access that is no longer needed should be removed.
Step 6: Ongoing contracts and external services
Also ask for ongoing contracts and external services, for example hosting, newsletters or booking systems. Previous hosting stays active until launch.
Sample request to your current agency
The wording below is only a template and should be adapted to your website, contracts and existing access.
Sample text to copy and adapt
We want to bring administration of our website and related services under our company's control.
Please confirm where our domain is managed and grant our company its own administrative access. Please also identify the provider that handles our business email and confirm that we hold administrative access there.
Please provide the original files and media available to our company, together with details of any limited usage rights.
If Google Search Console, Google Analytics or other analytics services were set up, please grant owner or administrator rights to our own company account.
Please also list any other external services, ongoing contracts and notice periods. Once handover is confirmed, please remove agency access that is no longer required.
How the switch to Velvionix works
The first step is our project enquiry. Tell us your current website, what bothers you about it and what should change. Goals, scope and budget range help us assess the project before the first conversation. You then receive an initial assessment by email and the appropriate next step. A project only proceeds on the basis of an individual proposal.
Afterwards we look more closely at the publicly accessible website and clarify which content and media should be carried over. If files or access that are actually needed are missing, we tell you exactly what to request.
The old website stays online with the previous provider until the switch. We develop the new presence independently and review it with you at a separate preview address. Only after your approval is the domain switched; then the old setup can be retired and Care and Hosting by Velvionix can begin.
Typical Pitfalls When Switching Agencies
Frequently Asked Questions About Switching Web Agencies
Does my domain need to be transferred?
No. In many cases it stays with the current domain provider. For launch, only the technical mapping to the new website is updated.
Does my business email keep working?
Yes. Business email under your own domain can keep running with the current email provider. Before launch we clarify where it is managed so the existing configuration stays intact.
Does Velvionix need my WordPress administrator access?
Usually not. Make sure you retain any access you are entitled to under your own control. Until the switch, the old website remains the previous provider's responsibility.
What if images or original files are missing?
We clarify which files are needed. Missing images, videos or visual elements can be developed separately when required.
What happens to my old website during development?
It stays online. The new website is built in parallel and reviewed at a separate preview address. The domain is switched only after your approval.
What happens to pages already found in Google?
They are considered in planning. Useful existing URLs can stay the same; changed URLs can be permanently redirected to the matching new page. Specific rankings are still not guaranteed.
Existing Website: What Stays and What Gets Rebuilt
If your domain is established, keep it. If your business email works, it can keep running. If existing content and media are strong, we can reuse them.
What is rebuilt is the part that limits your web presence today: structure, design and technical foundation.
On our website creation page you can see how we develop a new business website from an existing presence.
Prepare the Agency Switch and Start Fresh
In the project enquiry, tell us your current website, what bothers you about it and what should change. You receive an initial assessment and the appropriate next step before an individual proposal is created.
